Handmade Purchases from Etsy

After 2 years of abstaining from kawaii and all things handmade, I managed to convince myself that I was in need of some recuperative shopping therapy. It's almost like a rebound syndrome. I bought 4 items at one go! But well, I deserve them. :D

The kawaii purse is too precious! I'm afraid of using it for fear of wearing out the fabric. @.@ The 3rd purchase is a fabric zipper pouch, which I forgot to take a photo of. And the final purchase is a backpack, something I actually need because the one I have now is literally peeling.

Well, it looks like I'm slowly getting back to blogging again, albeit shorter posts. Hope that this will keep up. :)

More Kawaii De-stashing!

A Crafty Comeback!

Hi guys!

I've been on a long long hiatus. My last post was 2 years ago! @.@ I'm really sorry but it couldn't be helped. I finished my training and now am a fully-registered pharmacist! Because the day job consumes most of my time, I hardly ever do any crafting. But the past Chinese New Year blessed me with 4 days of blissful free-time, and so I decided that I've put off crafting long enough.

Crafting materials are of abundance, the result of several years of swapping and hoarding. It truly surprised me how much this hobby had grown, how rewarding the reaps were and how deep a passion I still have for it. Though a dream, I still hope that one day, I'll be sitting in a little shop of my own, making things with my hands and be really happy. :)

As of now, let's look at the goodies I made for CNY!

I started off with this pin brooch here. The bag of felt scraps had gotten too full, and I was in need of something really sweet! I really love the pearls and gold beads; they make things look princess-y and oh so sweet!

And then I proceeded with a 2nd brooch, still with a theme of candy and cakes. After putting on the last piece of embellishment, I declare UHU a crafter's best friend! XD

And finally, I made something I've always wanted to make; a colour-block pin with dangly chains. There's something about the combination of primary colours that makes your eyes smile and heart all warm. :P

That's all I've to share with you for now. I'm not sure when I'll be able to craft again, as work will be starting in a few day's time. Working 8 to 5, 5 days a week is no joke. And I just realised, my chat box has become an advertising space for anyone on the planet. -____-" Pls, spare me, dear people. Only promote your handmade items, or kawaii-related things. If I look up a blog on 'kawaii', I wouldn't click on "100 types of padlocks for your home". -____-"

Cookie Box + Candy Tins turned YUMMIER~!

I'm BACK! :D Took out the stash of faux desserts; sweets, ice creams and cakes, and started off decorating 3 cases with zeal. :D Recently, I found a better substitute to the faux cream that I've used all this while. This new one is really good, as it gives me the benefit of adding my stuff on at my own pace --> it dries off pretty slowly, but the end product is flawlessly beautiful!

Preparations for Pipit's 3rd Anniversary Market

The past Saturday, I participated in a local designers' market. It was organized by Pipit, and the market was in conjunction with its 3rd anniversary celebration. Upon a last minute's thought, I decided to try out selling again. With only two weeks for preparations, I whipped up some Kawaii~neh!'s staples - sweets! :P

Wanting to make something kawaii other than food, I tried animal head plushies. Started off with a bunny. And then a teddy. And then a chicken. And finally a birdie. Then I remade each one of them in different colours.

Cotton Candy Box

Hi all. I've been rather caught up with my thesis write-up and preparations for a presentation next week. Though it's nothing like what I went through during my earlier sems, semester 7 somehow demanded a large portion of my time.

After weeks of half-hearted slaving away at journals and online articles, I finally decided that today, I needed a break. I needed to do something to take my mind off next week's research presentation. T-T

On my desk sat this teenee salmon-pink tin. It's a case containing peach-flavoured mints - made in Germany.

So I took out some half pearls, acrylic rhinestones and some plastic roses, and set to decorate the tin.

I sort of regretted putting on all those pearls. Too much is not always good, and it doesn't necessarily make the thing pretty. :(

The last semester of my pharmacy degree course will start by end of November. That means only a few weeks of hols this time around. T-T I'll be in Kuching for the first 3 months of the sem to complete the clinical attachment. I'm so not looking forward to it. T___T

More Sweet Deco Kawaiiness + KPop

*Sigh* You're about to bash me right? *Grumbles* I know I know.... What's the point of keeping a blog if I'm just going to let it show the same thing for 3 weeks? T-T

Well. The thing is. I'm currently swamped by a heavy bout of laziness. I've got a few ideas for making stuff but I just couldn't be bothered to lift a finger. Recently, I just discovered the joy of YouTube and KPop/Entertainment combined. From dawn to twilight, it's 2NE1, Super Junior and Star King. It just feels so much more comfortable just watching Bom and Dara's silliness on 2NE1 TV and laugh at Eun Hyuk's lame statements on numerous game/talk shows.

So here's a little something to appease you with. :P

Decoden Kawaii Sweets Cabochons!

Since way back last year, I had wanted to get some of those teenee cute little cookies, chocolates, cakes and ice creams in the form of plastic cabochons. I delayed for a whole year before finally deciding to purchase some from Tomoko on Etsy.

I'm still thinking what I should do with these. I actually wanted to do a deco makeover for my new laptop, but I didn't expect the cabs to be as heavy as they are. Will need to come up with a suitable design...

Just to let you guys know again, I'll be at the Taman Layang-layang Kepong this afternoon as well as tomorrow afternoon to carry out the weight loss survey on the public. After the Singapore trip 2 weeks ago, I came back to KL with head full of what I'd seen. Somehow, ideas just began popping out of nowhere. So I took out a bag of scrap felt, piles of new felt pieces and beads, and started a crafting marathon.

{ I made this next, on the second day. Glad that it turned out pretty. :P The faux pearls all around the edges just add to the overflowing sweetness. :P Speech bubble says デザート, which I gather from the online translator means 'dessert'. }

{ I made this one on the night of the 2nd day. It's really CUTE, even if I say so myself. :P The base of the pin is salmon pink, and there's a pink organza ribbon bow sewn onto the back of the baby elephant. SO CUTE!!! }

{ This took the whole of Day 3 to make, because two pesky kids came to my place so I had to babysit. -___-" If you noted, I used the polka-dotted fabric button bought in Singapore. }

{ This was done on morning of Day 4. I wanted to put either 'shooting star' in words, but then it came out too long. So I typed 'pretty' into the online translator, and かなり came out. I'm not sure if it's correct. I think it's 'kiirei'? }

{ Made on Day 5 I think. *lost track* If you look at it carefully, you'll notice that I didn't sew the edges of the bunny. I used super glue to seal the felt edges so that it's hard and doesn't fray, and I glued it onto the red circle base. }

Loot from Singapore

I was prepared to guard myself from over-spending during the recent trip. Nevertheless, I couldn't resist the temptation to get some craft supplies and other goodies.

{ Genuine flat-back swarovski crystals in different colours. I'd been trying to search for colour mixes in one pack for ages. It's a pity that they only have mixes in this one size. I got it at a discounted SG$7.50 from one of the bead stores on Arab Street. Those fabric buttons were bought from Doinky Doodles for SG$5. I feel bad about leaving without buying anything, especially after spending almost half-an-hour taking photos in the shop. :P I wanted a LOT of things actually, but I kept on reminding myself that I don't NEED them. -___-" }

{ Killer gladiators with punk studs. My friend says I look like a rocker chick when I wear them. XD There are LOTS of gladiator styles in Singapore, waaayy nicer than the ones I've seen in Malaysia. Except for a pair at a boutique in Bangsar - that's a pretty one too. :D I sort of regretted not getting it then and there. }

When I was at the customs and immigration station in Johor, I was stopped by the officers - because I was carrying a shopping bag. I was carrying in it my shoes which costed SG$33. They informed me that anything new bought from Singapore is taxable by 30% of the purchase price.

I was like W-T-F!!! I travelled ALL the way to Singapore, shopped for things, and travelled ALL THE WAY BACK to Johor Bahru, just to have my purchases taxed? Did the government even DO ANYTHING for us during the trip?

I was like ok - maybe it's because they set up the immigration building and perhaps that's a form of contribution from the government.

But what pissed me off was that these immigration officers only stopped people who looked like they just bought stuff from Singapore. Meaning - people who were carrying some sort of shopping bags. I voiced out one of the officers that their checking system is just LAME because anyone can strip off the price tags, scruff up their new purchases of clothes and shoes, and wear them or stuff them in their backpacks, and walk past as if they didn't buy anything at all from Singapore. What's more, are how are they going to detect tiny things like jewelry?

Another lady officer, a more out-spoken one said; We know who are the ones who bought stuff. We actually have a scanner here to check everyone's bags.

I was like WTF again, and said; THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU USE THE SCANNER? Even if you used it, people who pulled of the price tags will just be let off! Is this MANUAL checking system even FAIR TO US?

The officer shot back; You should consider that there are only 3 of us on duty at this time. We can't ask everyone to have their bags scanned. That'll be a waste of time and a truck-load of work for us.

By then, I was ready to give her a HARD PUNCH in the face. I was silently fuming, hardly knowing what to do, while they continued to make records of other unfortunate souls who were also stopped and asked to pay taxes for their puchases.

My expression must have been poisonous so much so that the lady officer then said; Well since you've worn them in Singapore for a day, then I suppose we can let you off.

Oh. My. God.

Such a bunch of IDIOTS!!! Lazy, irresponsible, coffee-money-sucking IDIOTS!!!

Why did all the rotten incidents occur in here in Malaysia? I think we're going backwards.
