For not having a Green Thumb...😪

I was inspired to make this as a result of not having green thumbs. I'm rather interested in indoor plants, but only one or two of a dozen I acquired survived to live albeit only slightly wilted ...🤦🏻‍♀️😅

Got the 'antique' tin from Daiso, and it was sitting there waiting to be filled with something. It's quite tall, so I made a felt base for the cacti to sit on. Lined the base with a few felt plush stones too. 

Getting warmer in the crafting department!

A Crafty Comeback!

Hi guys!

I've been on a long long hiatus. My last post was 2 years ago! @.@ I'm really sorry but it couldn't be helped. I finished my training and now am a fully-registered pharmacist! Because the day job consumes most of my time, I hardly ever do any crafting. But the past Chinese New Year blessed me with 4 days of blissful free-time, and so I decided that I've put off crafting long enough.

Crafting materials are of abundance, the result of several years of swapping and hoarding. It truly surprised me how much this hobby had grown, how rewarding the reaps were and how deep a passion I still have for it. Though a dream, I still hope that one day, I'll be sitting in a little shop of my own, making things with my hands and be really happy. :)

As of now, let's look at the goodies I made for CNY!

I started off with this pin brooch here. The bag of felt scraps had gotten too full, and I was in need of something really sweet! I really love the pearls and gold beads; they make things look princess-y and oh so sweet!

And then I proceeded with a 2nd brooch, still with a theme of candy and cakes. After putting on the last piece of embellishment, I declare UHU a crafter's best friend! XD

And finally, I made something I've always wanted to make; a colour-block pin with dangly chains. There's something about the combination of primary colours that makes your eyes smile and heart all warm. :P

That's all I've to share with you for now. I'm not sure when I'll be able to craft again, as work will be starting in a few day's time. Working 8 to 5, 5 days a week is no joke. And I just realised, my chat box has become an advertising space for anyone on the planet. -____-" Pls, spare me, dear people. Only promote your handmade items, or kawaii-related things. If I look up a blog on 'kawaii', I wouldn't click on "100 types of padlocks for your home". -____-"

Preparations for Pipit's 3rd Anniversary Market

The past Saturday, I participated in a local designers' market. It was organized by Pipit, and the market was in conjunction with its 3rd anniversary celebration. Upon a last minute's thought, I decided to try out selling again. With only two weeks for preparations, I whipped up some Kawaii~neh!'s staples - sweets! :P

Wanting to make something kawaii other than food, I tried animal head plushies. Started off with a bunny. And then a teddy. And then a chicken. And finally a birdie. Then I remade each one of them in different colours.

Cotton Candy Box

Hi all. I've been rather caught up with my thesis write-up and preparations for a presentation next week. Though it's nothing like what I went through during my earlier sems, semester 7 somehow demanded a large portion of my time.

After weeks of half-hearted slaving away at journals and online articles, I finally decided that today, I needed a break. I needed to do something to take my mind off next week's research presentation. T-T

On my desk sat this teenee salmon-pink tin. It's a case containing peach-flavoured mints - made in Germany.

So I took out some half pearls, acrylic rhinestones and some plastic roses, and set to decorate the tin.

I sort of regretted putting on all those pearls. Too much is not always good, and it doesn't necessarily make the thing pretty. :(

The last semester of my pharmacy degree course will start by end of November. That means only a few weeks of hols this time around. T-T I'll be in Kuching for the first 3 months of the sem to complete the clinical attachment. I'm so not looking forward to it. T___T

After the Singapore trip 2 weeks ago, I came back to KL with head full of what I'd seen. Somehow, ideas just began popping out of nowhere. So I took out a bag of scrap felt, piles of new felt pieces and beads, and started a crafting marathon.

{ I made this next, on the second day. Glad that it turned out pretty. :P The faux pearls all around the edges just add to the overflowing sweetness. :P Speech bubble says デザート, which I gather from the online translator means 'dessert'. }

{ I made this one on the night of the 2nd day. It's really CUTE, even if I say so myself. :P The base of the pin is salmon pink, and there's a pink organza ribbon bow sewn onto the back of the baby elephant. SO CUTE!!! }

{ This took the whole of Day 3 to make, because two pesky kids came to my place so I had to babysit. -___-" If you noted, I used the polka-dotted fabric button bought in Singapore. }

{ This was done on morning of Day 4. I wanted to put either 'shooting star' in words, but then it came out too long. So I typed 'pretty' into the online translator, and かなり came out. I'm not sure if it's correct. I think it's 'kiirei'? }

{ Made on Day 5 I think. *lost track* If you look at it carefully, you'll notice that I didn't sew the edges of the bunny. I used super glue to seal the felt edges so that it's hard and doesn't fray, and I glued it onto the red circle base. }

So there you go. By the end of last week, I had these sitting in my drawer. Take a look at my Etsy shop if you'd like to have them. :D

Darn... These days Blogger just doesn't agree with me. T-T Anyways.... I'm gonna head down to Singapore for the rest of the week. :D Bus to JB is due at 2.30pm. :D

YAY!!!

Finally, a chance to travel. If I stay in KL for one more day, I think I'm gonna go berserk. Our research survey is just moving too slowly. We can't start yet, except for searching for extra subjects outside of Sunway Pyramid (which is our main sampling population). Mm... Actually, we could do quite a bit at the moment, like searching for literature (journals, articles and such) relevant to our study, and also learn to use SPSS properly.

But. The young heart needs to feel new things and the eyes are hungry for inspiration!

I Want Candy

Not much happened during my absence from the blog. ^-^" My friend and I were idly preparing for data collection for our research survey. We started scouting for companies that'll grant us permission to perform the survey on their employees. The task turned out to be far more difficult than what I initially perceived. Every company requested to be sent an official letter of some sort, without even first letting us explain what we were doing. We thought of discussing informally with someone in-charge before proceeding to hand in the official letter. But in the end, we were forced to retire for the day. The letter and a summary of our research was drafted. We're now waiting for our supervisor to give us the go before we submit them to each company.

So yeah. Very exciting week huh. >.<

I'm currently bored to death. Somehow, the want to travel to Singapore keeps popping up. I'm already mapping out the route and places I want to go, in my mind. The only obsstacle now is accomodation. Where can I stay for less than RM100/night in Singapore? :(

While goyang-ing kaki these few days, I whipped up a little something.

That aside, I'm preparing some stuff for a whimsy jar swap. First swap in 3 years. -___-" I hope I can still do it ok. ^-^" It's fun to stuff goodies into a 400g glass jar, while arranging them in such a way that the jar appears to hold untouchable sweets from heaven. :P

I feel so wasted these days. Needing a little push to really start crafting again. T-T

More Decoden Deco Sweets - Kawaii Yummy Bling Style Cases

Final year of uni had just started today. With a super boring lecture on counseling services provided by the uni and stress management. I was thinking, are they subtly (or very obviously) trying to prepare us students for what is coming? Semester 7 is all about research. Some get to do lab research (like pharmaceuticals / pharmacology) and others get to do surveys.

I chose to do something not entirely unrelated to pharmacy, but may only be of little help to the profession I'm bound to practise once I graduate. I chose to do a survey on weight loss methods practised by Malaysian adults aged 18 to 65 years. My partner and I will have to interview 340+ volunteers with a questionnaire. And measure each participant's weight, height and body fat (there's a device for that).

Doing it is not what I'm worried about. I'm more anxious about how we're going to get 340+ people to co-operate and willingly participate. It's common knowledge that a major portion of the public just ignores people who look like they're going to ask you for your time to complete some survey. But hopefully, while carrying it out under the uni's name, people may be beckoned to do it.

*Sigh~* Let's not ponder over this stupid research thingy.

Ironically, I find myself with more free time now than when I was back home in Sarawak. Probably because of the moving.

Last night, I took out my crafting supplies and set to assemble this :

Every last piece of candy up there was handmade from FIMO polymer clay. It took me about 2 to 3 days during hols to complete them. Yesterday, I went to this craft supplies store at The Gardens Mid Valley. Bought 2 bags of acrylic rhinestones and a bag of pastel pompoms with shiny stick-outs. Perfect for the project.

{ I used various stamps to make engravings on the clay. Spot 'Happy Valentine's Day' sign on the salmon pink heart and rose with the same colour on a chocolate bar. I also used a few pieces of tinted glass pebbles to cover up blank spots around the sides. }

{ Sequinned plush mushroom dangly with a clasp. It's actually a cellphone strap. I took off the cellphone hanger and clasped it to one of the clay charms which has a metal loo. }

{ The sides are lined with white lace. Added a few ribbons here and there. The trick to prevent satin ribbons from fraying is to gently dab some glue to the cut edges. Use glues that harden once dried. Here I used Bostik Super Glue. In fact, any super glue will do. The downside to it is that stains from the glue may be visible. }

Somewhat exhilirated by the accomplishment with this case, I set to make yet another one this morning :

I kind of feel unsatisfied with how it turned out. The colours and arrangement both seem wrong to me. I probably shouldn't have stuck in all those polymer clay sweets. Initially, I thought of making a jelly land or something, but ended up piling more and more polymer clay charms. -__-"

Moving sure is tiring

Finally, we've settled down in Sarikei. Phew. Well, not really settled. There are still LOADS of stuff to unpack. While I could still stand the whirlwind of newspaper-wrapping, cellophane-taping, raffia-string-tying and marker-pen-writing madness for days and weeks before, THE moving day itself totally spent me. Although I didn't even angkat any furniture other than a stack of 3 plastic stools, I felt ready to drop dead by 6pm. Now to think we have to unpack and put everything back in place. *shudders*

If you're curious as to how the new place looks like, I took a video -sort of- and added some words to it.

Feeling rather lazy today, I rummaged the store and found a bag of small wooden blocks.

Then I got out some nails and a hammer and proceeded to make this :

{ The two chips at the top fit each other snugly to create a cute little house! There's a deep slit along one side of the rectangular block so the thinner triangle piece can be inserted into it. }

Each piece was nailed down, except for the house and the pole, which were attached with Super Glue. And super it is. :D

{ And I tried it out as a jewelry stand. Not too feasible though. }

I'll be flying back to KL this Friday afternoon. I've grown much too accustomed to passing days by aimlessly that I fear I'll have to be shocked to rise back into reality. T-T

Oozing Sweetness ~

Many many apologies to everyone. T-T Went missing for weeks even though I was and still am stuck at home every day. Well, I lazed about, poked around with the sis, went for walks and swims, baked chocolate chip cookies, banana cakes and a chocolate cake. Also tried making tau sar piah (red bean paste pastries) with the spiral shell

Apart from that, the whole family's busy with packing. We're moving to Sarikei sometime next week. The date is not set. Dad said "We'll move when all the packing is complete". Easier said than done. I think at the rate we're going, we still be stuck in Sibu by end of the year. -_-" Can't imagine where all the junk came from. I think I threw away half of my stuff - old clothes *which I know I'll never wear again but don't know why I kept them for all these years*, school kid's junk *erasers, stationery, mounts of stickers, cards and plastic toys*, free gifts that came with purchases *magnets? pens? bags? - can't believe I had them still* and thousands of un-name-able odds and ends.

After days of packing, I finally cleared away all my stuff, except for crafting supplies on the working table. I decided to do a little crafting before putting away everything *which I don't intend to till the day before moving*.

The tin was decorated, as seen in the photo above, when I was still in KL. I made the charms using polymer clay and silicone mix (for creams). Tried making roses with the clay, but couldn't get the shape I want. ^-^" I still have a lot to learn about working with polymer clay. I also drew a rainbow-lettered sign that reads 'Kawaii~neh!' on shrink plastic.

The sides looked quite empty. Too plain. So, I added a few things to make this :

First, I glued on a strip of flowery white lace bought from the local store selling sewing supplies. Upon completeing gluing, turned out that the stark white contrasted too much with the metallic grey of the box, hence the attempt to add as many things to cover up any spot of grey.
